It can actually cut both ways.

Jesus rebukes peter sword. He was the brother of andrew, another of jesus’ disciples. No more of this! (22:51a). The message of jesus was and is that the worlds paradigm is not god's.

When jesus is betrayed and arrested, peter impulsively strikes with his sword to try to protect him. 26:31, ” i will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.” i feel. Yet peter did not fully know what he was saying when he first declared that jesus is the messiah — the son of david who builds god’s house (2 sam.

So, the sword here from the challenge, it’s a double edged sword. Peter was a fisherman, not a soldier. Peter was inadvertently being used of satan in thinking he was protecting jesus.

Jesus rebukes him and heals the man he injured, in order to prevent a bloodbath. (or saint peter.) one of christ's disciples. Yes, those people were engaged in a plot to kill jesus, but in god's paradigm life not death is the source of power.

The arm of flesh and the carnal weapon are thine; Christ orders peter to sheathe his sword; Turn off thy sword from the use which thou art making of it to its proper destination, to be wielded only at god's command.

In matthew 26:52 we have a scene where jesus rebukes peter for being rash, but he does so in a more creative way than most people are aware. In the greek new testament, the bolded part above reads thus: Thus jesus words, “put your sword back in its place,” jesus said to him, “for all who take the sword will die by the sword.” (matthew 26:52).

The obvious question is why did jesus tell the disciples to arm themselves but then rebuke peter the first time he used such a defense? Shall i not drink the cup the father has given me? (john 18:11). Jesus sharply rebukes his disciples.

He was surrounded by a lot of armed soldiers. Jesus seems to rebuke peter in luke’s account as well as in the other gospels for taking his instructions to utilize a sword literally. Thus, when jesus sharply rebukes peter later for drawing his sword and cutting off the ear of malchus, saying that “all who take the sword will perish by the sword,” (matthew 26:52) he is not condemning any and all use of swords.

Jesus rebuked peter for striking with the sword, because peter was acting in defense of jesus. For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.(matthew. Then said jesus to him, put up again your sword into his place:

As if christ would say, the sword is none of mine; Peter uses a sword to cut an ear off one of the men who came to arrest jesus. We must choose whose world we would live in.

Peter was again putting his actions into play before thinking of the consequences. So he said to his men, “far be it from me because of the lord that i should do this thing to my lord, the lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the lord’s anointed.” david persuaded his men with these words and did not allow them to rise up against. For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

The servant's name was malchus. The οϋν here is introduced between simon and peter, as if to imply that it was not merely simon son of jonas, but simon the rock, the man of mighty impulsive passion, ready, as he said a few hours since, to go with his master to prison and to death. Another example of this is found in john 13:27.

Sword drills for jesus sharply rebukes his disciples. Because of the closeness he felt to christ, peter could not humanly accept the fact that christ would have to die. What is the significance of jesus calming the storm? answer:

This does not reflect on a mortal person or follow defending themselves or other innocent life. You should follow us on twitter here. Rather, it is spoken in the hope that these truths will sink in and they will repent.

Satan seized on peter’s emotional tendencies and influenced him to rebuke christ as he did. Peter's strike is living in the paradigm of the world. He had not yet grasped jesus’ true messianic purpose.

Simon peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; And he said to them. But he turned, and said unto peter, get thee behind me, satan:

So, instead, he seeks to thwart the arrest with his sword. But in his spiritual dullness, peter doesn't perceive that jesus' arrest and crucifixion is god's will to redeem mankind. However, when jesus rebukes him he seems to point to a.

In luke 22:36, jesus tells the disciples to take a sword when they go out to spread the gospel. The man who jesus had called satan because he did not want his lord to die on a cross and who had forgotten he said he would. This theory is further substantiated by peter when peter draws one of the swords a few hours later at jesus' arrest in the garden of gethsemane, slashing the ear of malchus, one of the priests' servants, and jesus rebukes him saying:

So yes, peter rebukes peter, but it doesn’t follow from that that peter somehow is not infallible or that peter somehow doesn’t have the authority that catholics say he has. Innocently, peter was doing the same thing. The story of jesus calming the storm is told in the three synoptic gospels, matthew, mark, and luke.

But the wording is peculiar, turn away (ἀπόστρεψον) thy sword; We can actually turn the table on our protestant friend. It came about afterward that david’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off the edge of saul’s robe.

And yet in the garden of gethsemane, as the officers arrive to arrest jesus, we learn: Jesus rebukes peter, heals malchus’ ear and quietly submits, knowing that in the end, god’s will must be done. This is evident in today’s passage, wherein peter is rebuked for misunderstanding jesus’ work shortly after being praised for recognizing his office.

<br>a very real battle that will, unfortunately be fought within the physical realm.and so i am curious as to why no one wants to ask the question “why did peter carry a sword?” there might be many answers to this question. This second sword hurt the heart of jesus. Reflect, today, upon two important lessons from these rebukes.

And the slave’s name was malchus. For thou savourest not the things that be of god, but those that be of men. This rebuke of jesus is not spoken in irrational anger or hatred;

December 31, 2019 at 3:22 pm is it wrong to protect the congregation from an evil person that walks in to do. Hours later, when peter uses a sword to try to protect jesus, jesus rebukes him. 2 thoughts on “why would jesus tell the disciples to bring swords and then rebuke peter for using one?” maria ortiz says:
